Techniques & Modalities
I blend various techniques and modalities into the healing process. My specialties and certifications include EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Transforming Touch, and Animal Assisted Services.
Although a mixture of these modalities are often utilized during the healing journey each will be discussed in detail and a specific plan will be made with each client.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an integrative psychotherapy approach to assist individuals in fulfilling their fullest potential through an eight-phase protocol that supports moving maladaptively encoded information stored in the body into our adaptive healing system in order to recode this information and put it away properly. This is an evidence-based approach that has been heavily researched and found to be extremely effective for PTSD and other mental health experiences (www.emdria.org).

Somatic Experiencing (SE)
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is an approach that understands how stress and overwhelm are stored in the body and releases this shock energy which can be key to transforming PTSD and the scars of emotional and developmental/attachment trauma. Utilizing a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight, or freeze responses allows for internal and deep healing to be found and a new pattern to be formed in the nervous system (https://www.traumahealing.org/se-101/).

Animal Assisted Services (AAS)
Animal Assisted Services (AAS) is a goal-directed intervention in which an animal meeting specific criteria (Harry an adopted golden doodle from the Johnson County Animal Shelter) is included in therapy to support healing. Working with Harry is never a guarantee but can be considered on a client-to-client basis.
